Ultimo Community Garden

Pyrmont Community Bank® Branch is pleased to have been able to sponsor the Ultimo Community Garden. The project came to the notice of the Branch at a community forum held in July last year to discuss community projects seeking funding support.

Ultimo Community Garden went through an 18 month planning, designing & approval process culminating in the first garden bed being built in February 2011. Six 18 metre accessible garden beds were built by the garden group from February to June 2011. As garden beds were built they were planted with herbs and vegetables.

The garden is organic and is already producing herbs and vegetables for garden members. The garden is 100% communal – there are no private allotments. Membership fees are $20 to join, with an annual renewal fee of $10. Members who are also parents can bring children under the age of 16 along for free. Membership is open to anyone within walking or cycling distance of the garden.

Members maintain the garden every Sunday morning, weather permitting, from 10am – 12pm. The public are invited to come along and join in the fun.

The Pyrmont Community Bank® sponsorship has paid for the mulch already being used on the garden and for several loads in to the future.

Ultimo Community Garden’s web site has more information including a link to a map and more photos covering the extensive building process required to get the garden started. Read more at http://www.ultimocommunitygarden.org.au/.
